(Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, July 27, 2017) – The UAE Ministry of Community Development in cooperation with MetLife Foundation hosted workshops for mothers and young children on financial empowerment through their Dream, Save, Do initiative. The workshops provided mothers and children with positive practices and skills to dream, plan, set goals, and properly use and save available resources. These financial empowerment workshops were held in Um Al-Qwain, Ajman and Ras Al-Khaimah at the Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) centers. Over 60 mothers and 200 children attended the workshops that were supported by MetLife Foundation. The workshop aimed to help young children and their parents acquire healthy financial skills and behaviors by implementing effective strategies for spending, saving, sharing, and donating. Children learned these positive practices through fun and educationally sound learning materials that are part of Iftah Ya Simsim. Elmo, Kaaki, Shams, No’man, Melsoon, and Gargur help children to learn about saving their funds, using their funds to fulfill their aspirations, and sharing and caring with others.
Attending the workshop were key representatives from the Ministry of Community Development, Fatma Al Dosari, and Mariam Al Suwaidi. MetLife representatives included Rana Hajjar and Nabila Saeed, who contributed their time and services to supporting young children and parents understand the importance of financial empowerment. Parents and children attending the workshops reported that they enjoyed the sessions, learned a lot, and now have the knowledge to educate their children at home. They requested additional educational and learning workshops from Iftah Ya Simsim and MetLife Foundation.
A special event was also organized at the MOCD new Ras Al-Khaimah Exhibition Center. Hundreds of children were able to participate in the learning activities and also to meet the mascots from Iftah Ya Simsim – No’man and Shams.
